"Running Alone"
Jacqueline Fell, Central Florida News 13
Momma knows best – It’s the little old saying
we’ve heard a million times. It might also be
the phrase YOU’RE uttering all the time. Who
ever is saying it, the question is are we
listening? And are we practicing what we preach?
We know Central Florida isn’t the safest place
in the world. We know there are nearly 2000 sex
offenders living in Orlando alone. We also know
(and unfortunately some have experienced) women
are a target. So, ladies why do we continue to
run alone? There’s no need to tell scary stories
here- we’ve been through it and now we don’t
have to deal with it.
We have to be extra cautious about not putting
ourselves in potentially dangerous positions.
You really never know (I’m sorry to have to say
it) who could be around the corner. Running
alone, whether it’s early, late, or mid
afternoon, just isn’t smart. There are too many
things that could go wrong. A wrong turn, a dead
cell phone, no cell phone, someone lurking not
to far. We can’t always guarantee someone is
going to be around should something go wrong so
why risk it?
Schedules can be crazy but taking the time to
plan a run with a buddy, husband, or group can
ensure you’re around a lot longer for more runs!
Besides, aren’t we OWR inspiring?! We’ve got
marathon runners to the perfect pacing jogger to
keep us all in check. We can all agree the
inspiration and motivation this group brings to
its members- why wouldn’t we want to do that
every time we lace up!
